OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi’s Dwight Coleby is leaving the basketball program, creating a sizable hole in the Rebels’ frontcourt rotation.
The school confirmed Wednesday that Coleby has asked for his release. The 6-foot-9 forward played in all 34 games last season as a sophomore, starting three. He averaged 5.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Coleby’s role was expected to increase next season after the loss of seniors Aaron Jones and M.J. Rhett. He shot 53.2 percent from the field and nearly 80 percent from the free throw while blocking nearly a shot per game.
Ole Miss recently added transfer forward Tomasz Gielo, who might help absorb the loss of Coleby. Gielo averaged 10.9 points and 5.9 rebounds last season at Liberty.
