COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A new trial has been scheduled for a western Iowa youth softball coach who’d been found guilty of sex abuse.

The Daily Nonpareil reports (https://bit.ly/1K08wnX ) that a judge vacated the four convictions because of new evidence in the case against John Osborn. The original verdicts were announced on March 26 after a nonjury trial. The new trial is set to begin on Aug. 4.

Council Bluffs police say Osborn and a 14-year-old friend of his daughter began exchanging text messages in June 2014 and had phone conversations about sex. Court documents show the girl reported that she and Osborn engaged in sexual acts in July when the girl stayed at Osborn’s house for a sleepover with his daughter.

Osborn has denied willingly touching the teen.
