CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have released injury-plagued guard Edmund Kugbila, a former fourth-round draft pick who never played in a game for the team.

Kugbila, 24, was a surprise selection out of Valdosta State in 2013 and Carolina hoped he could step in right away and start. But the 6-foot-4, 325-pound Ghana native could hardly get on the practice field, let alone play in games due injuries.

He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with various injuries, including a strained hamstring. He injured his back last offseason and underwent surgery in July and was placed on IR again.

Carolina signed Chas Alecxih to replace him on the roster. Alexxih, an undrafted rookie out of Pittsburgh in 2012, tried out with the Panthers at rookie minicamp.
