BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore mother has been arrested after police say she confessed to killing her 30-day-old daughter last year.

Baltimore police say 21-year-old Damira Latham was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder in the February 2014 death of her daughter, Melody Johnson.

A medical examiner determined the infant had suffered injuries prior to her death at home, but did not know if the injuries that killed her were caused by someone.

Police say on May 12, while being interviewed about a separate incident, Latham admitted to detectives that she had gotten frustrated with the baby, slamming her down on her legs, causing the infant’s head to snap back and strike a television stand.

A Baltimore police spokeswoman says the child’s cause of death has been changed to homicide by blunt force.
