SITKA, Alaska (AP) - Workers have closed Sitka’s Centennial Hall after finding potentially hazardous material in an old door.

The Sitka Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1cOMxp2 ) that building manager Don Kluting says the city is taking precautions in case the material is asbestos. Staff members sent a sample to a lab in Seattle for testing.

City meetings are being relocated during the building closure.

Kluting says staff members found the material Monday morning while preparing for a garage sale and moving surplus doors out of the building.

He says laminate came off one of the doors and gray chunks of material spilled onto the floor.
