YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - A 150-pound black bear has been tranquilized and removed from a tree in in Yonkers.

The Journal News reports (https://lohud.us/1GpxONw ) that the bear is being relocated upstate by the New York state Department of Environmental Conservation.

The bear was first spotted around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near a Yonkers apartment complex.

It was tranquilized early Wednesday after it went up a tree near the Bronx River Parkway.

Lt. David Komar of the Yonkers police said he could not recall any other instances of bear sightings in the city.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says people who are approached by bears should be especially cautious around cubs.

The DEC says to use noise to scare bears and back away slowly rather than running away.
