ST. LOUIS (AP) - The latest round of “hot spot” policing in St. Louis is targeting five high-crime neighborhoods on the city’s north side.

KTVI-TV (https://bit.ly/1KisVrC ) reports that the Kingsway east, Lewis Place, the Ville, the Greater Ville and Vandeventer neighborhoods will all see an increasing number of officers.

Police say crimes against people are up between 30 percent and 70 percent in those neighborhoods.

Not everyone supports the idea of “hot spot” policing. Alderman Antonio French calls it “whack a mole” policing because officers only increase their presence in the area for a relatively short time.
