MILL CREEK, Wash. (AP) - A fire district spokeswoman says a competitive swimmer out for a training swim helped rescue a fisherman who fell out of his boat in a lake near Mill Creek, Washington.

The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/eFz00r ) that Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes says the fisherman got tangled in the anchor line Wednesday morning and fell overboard in Martha Lake. A witness called 911 to report the man was hanging onto the side of his 10-foot boat.

Hynes says the swimmer went to the boater’s aid, untangling the line, but couldn’t hoist the man into the boat. So the swimmer climbed into the boat and began rowing to shore with the fisherman hanging on.

A fire department rescue swimmer arrived and supported the fisherman as the first swimmer finished the row to shore.

Hynes says the fish the man was trying to land was still hooked.
