GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Police and transit officials are investigating a bus accident that killed a 3-year-old boy.

KKCO-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1LlmjGT) a Grand Valley Transit bus was making a right hand turn Tuesday afternoon when it hit the boy as he and an adult were crossing the street. The toddler was taken to a Denver hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Mesa County contracts with Dallas-based MV Transportation to run bus services. The company released a statement saying the bus driver has been removed from duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation as well as the one being run by Grand Junction Police.

There isn’t any indication that alcohol or drugs were a factor. Police are investigating traffic lights and walk signals at the intersection.
