SNOW CAMP, N.C. (AP) - A tractor-trailer hauling more than 3,000 chickens overturned in Alamance County, injuring the driver and closing the highway for several hours.

The Times-News of Burlington reports (https://bit.ly/1dl6nZZ) the N.C. Highway Patrol said a truck driven by 50-year-old Rex Daniel Stanley of Ramseur was traveling north on N.C. 49 Wednesday morning when it overturned. Trooper R.S. Skipwith said the weight shifted and the truck rolled over.

Stanley was driving for a Delaware company which has breeder operations in Liberty. The truck was reported to be carrying 3,600 laying hens, some of which were killed.

Stanley was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Part of N.C. 49 near the wreck remained closed throughout the day, forcing drivers to take a detour.
