GREEN BAY, Va. (AP) - Virginia’s secretary of natural resources is completing a 36-park journey at Twin Lakes State Park in Prince Edward County.

Secretary Molly Ward is scheduled Wednesday to complete her 16-month trek to every state park in Virginia.

Ward’s official journey through the parks began in March 2014 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Bedford County.

Her visit to each park included a briefing from staff and a tour of park facilities. She also met and talked with hundreds of visitors.

Nearly 9 million visitors go to Virginia’s state parks annually. One million spend the night.

State parks have more than 300 cabins and 1,800 campsites.
