ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York voters have again approved nearly all school budgets put before them this week.

The New York State Association of School Business Officials says Wednesday that 99 percent of 674 districts’ budgets passed Tuesday.

At least 10 passing budgets contain tax increases that exceed the tax cap set by New York state. Those proposals needed a “super” majority of at least 60 percent to pass. Seven districts that tried to override the estimated 2 percent cap saw their budgets defeated.

When budgets fail, districts can either adopt a contingency budget or put the same or a revised proposal up for a re-vote June 16.

Last year, 98 percent of budgets passed.
