CANTON, S.D. (AP) - Lincoln County zoning officials have approved permits that will allow an Aberdeen company to test the wind capacity for a possible multimillion-dollar wind farm.

County zoning officials in February denied Dakota Plains Energy permits for the five meteorological towers, after neighbors said they worried about property values, health impacts and nuisances should the Dakota Power Community Wind project go forward.

The County Commission later ruled the company had applied for the wrong permits. Dakota Plains Energy reapplied for permission, and received in on Monday in a 4-3 zoning board vote granting temporary permits for the towers.

Members of the We-Care South Dakota opposition group tell the Argus Leader newspaper (https://argusne.ws/1LaT1dj ) that they’re disappointed but aren’t giving up the fight.
