CORRY, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania State Police say four people were killed and one seriously wounded when their car crashed into a tree as the driver fled the scene of a burglary.

Authorities say a state police cruiser had been pursuing the car until its driver went onto a dirt road in Wayne Township, Erie County, and hit the tree late Thursday morning.

The victims’ names were not immediately released.

State police Sgt. Mark Zaleski tells The Erie Times News (https://bit.ly/1FB83sK ) that a resident of Elgin borough had come home Friday morning and saw a man running from his house. The man jumped into a Mazda and drove away. Zaleski says the homeowner called state police, and a trooper from the Corry barracks saw the Mazda heading north on Route 89 driving at high speed and gave chase.
