FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina woman and her fiance wanted in connection with the death of her 18-month-old daughter are in jail in Colorado.

Twenty-year-year-old Vanessa Ariana Sanchez of Fayetteville and 21-year-old Andrew Tyler Tomczak were arrested in the Colorado Springs area Wednesday night.

An autopsy showed Violet Cortez died in January of a head injury due to multiple blunt force impacts.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby says Sanchez was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and felony neglect child abuse with serious bodily injury. Tomczak was arrested on suspicion of “probation violation - felony assault by strangulation.”

Fayetteville investigators said they have filed extradition paperwork to bring the couple back to North Carolina.

It’s not clear if they have lawyers yet.
