AMORY, Miss. (AP) - State highway officials will hold a special dedication ceremony for a portion of Highway 6 in Monroe County that will be designated a “Military Order of Purple Heart Highway.”
The Mississippi Department of Transportation, in a news release, says Thursday’s recognition will begin with signage at the Lee County line and extend southeast to Highway 25, near Amory.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1dljRoM ) the 10 a.m. ceremony will be in the Monroe County Government Complex in Amory. Scheduled participants include Northern District Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert, state Rep. Chris Brown, state Sen. Hob Bryan and retired Army Lt. Col. Gerald Goldsborough.
Tagert says the recognition is a fitting way to honor the contributions Mississippi veterans have made in defense of and service to the United States.
