DOVER, Del. (AP) - Delaware’s state Board of Education is holding a special meeting to discuss a process for changing boundaries of school districts serving students in Wilmington.
A panel formed by Gov. Jack Markell last year to recommend ways to improve the public school system for Wilmington children has called for reducing the number of districts serving Wilmington from four to two.
The Wilmington Education Advisory Committee says the current fragmentation among the four districts is partly the result of inertia from a 44-year-old court decision to achieve school desegregation.
Member of the local committee were to discuss the recommendations with state board on Thursday.
