PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Two real estate companies are making a joint bid to build a multimillion-dollar, laboratory-retail complex in Providence on land freed up by the relocation of Interstate 195.

Gov. Gina Raimondo said Wednesday that Wexford Science and Technology and CV Properties last week proposed the complex, which will include a laboratory, office, hotel and retail spaces.

Raimondo says the project could help kick-start the economy and create an innovation district.

A CV Properties spokesman says the company has discussed the proposal with area universities, but they are not formal partners.

Officials say the project is still in preliminary stages. The developers want to build on 5 acres of land over several years.

The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission will evaluate the proposal on June 15.
