BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A woman whose German shepherd was fatally shot by a police officer in Erie in 2011 says she has reached a $40,000 settlement with the city.
The Daily Camera reported Thursday (https://goo.gl/g0lSl3 ) that Brittany Moore’s lawsuit also will require the police department to implement new training for dog encounters. The Englewood-based Animal Law Center filed the lawsuit in 2012 on behalf of Moore.
Officer Jamie Chester has said he fired after Moore’s dog bared its teeth and lunged at him. Moore disputes that and says the dog had followed her as she walked over to talk to Chester, who was responding to her 911 call about threatening phone calls.
Police officials declined to comment about the settlement.
