SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The family of a defendant fatally shot during a federal court trial in Salt Lake City says officials have let them see courtroom videos of the incident.

The U.S. District Court in Utah initially declined to show the family video of the April 21, 2014 shooting of Siale Angilau for security reasons but recently relented.

Authorities said Angilau, 25, tried to strike a witness with a pen before a U.S. marshal shot Angilau four times.

Angilau family attorney Bob Sykes told The Salt Lake Tribune (https://bit.ly/1dmR8Qv ) that some people viewing the video might decide the marshal was justified in shooting Angilau but Sykes says he’s not sure if anyone would have lost their life or been seriously injured because of Angilau’s actions.

The U.S. Marshals Service did not return a message seeking comment.
