PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - More rain this weekend could extend the wait for warmer temperatures that would allow farmers to spray for bugs and plant other crops.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports (https://bit.ly/1F3E0WU) Rocky Ford farmer John Schweizer says he’s happy with this week’s rain, but that it’s so wet he can’t do anything.
Most corn crops were planted last weekend, before the weather turned. Joe Mauro farms on the Bessemer Ditch in Pueblo County, and said the corn and chiles he planted should hold up under the rain. He’s planning to put in beans and pumpkins by June.
Dale Mauch farms near Lamar. He says even though some crops are being delayed by the wet weather, it’s been dry for so long that the much-needed water is allowing farmers to plant their whole acreage.
