CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) - Federal prosecutors on Long Island have charged three alleged members of the MS-13 street gang in the killings of three people in 2011.
One of the suspects, Arnolvin Umanzor Velasquez, was arrested Wednesday by an FBI SWAT team in Flowery Beach, Georgia. He is charged with killing two brothers suspected of wanting to leave the street gang.
Velasquez, who is from Brentwood, was arraigned at the federal courthouse in Atlanta and sent back to New York. Authorities also charged Sergio Cerna in the December 2011 killings. Attorneys for both men did not immediately return calls for comment.
A third alleged MS-13 member, Edwin Acosta-Martinez, was also charged in Wednesday’s indictment with the November 2011 murder of Brandon Sotomayor of Central Islip.
His attorney said his client denies any involvement.
