ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A grand jury has decided not to indict two St. Paul police officers who shot and killed a 24-year-old man in January.
Washington County Attorney Peter Orput says the Wednesday decision clears officers Jeremy Doverspike and Dan Peck. Orput says they were “very justified” in shooting Marcus Golden outside an apartment building Jan. 14.
According to police, Golden was shot by the two officers when he drove at high speed toward Doverspike. The officers were responding to a 911 call from a man who said his ex-girlfriend’s former boyfriend made death threats and was outside his apartment with a gun.
Police say a loaded handgun was later found within Golden’s reach in the SUV.
A spokesman for Golden’s family told the St. Paul Pioneer Press (https://bit.ly/1LnLkRJ ) that they were preparing a statement on the grand jury’s decision.
