BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration is rethinking its plan to sell a welcome center near the Louisiana Capitol after running into legislative resistance.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1cOYMSI ) that Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols said Wednesday that lawmakers have concerns about selling a building so close to the Capitol complex.
She said: “We are listening to those concerns and evaluating our options.”
The administration planned to sell the little-used welcome center and adjacent parking garage and sought required approval through the Legislature’s natural resources committees. But the House committee balked at the idea, and the Senate committee hasn’t scheduled a meeting on the subject.
Nichols said the administration may opt to sell only the parking garage.
The welcome center has been valued at $7 million and the parking garage at $4 million.
