COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Nearly 650 vehicles will travel south from Colorado Springs next week in the biggest Army convoy the area has seen in decades.
The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports (https://bit.ly/1Lnp0aR ) that the convoy will take more than 4,000 soldiers and more than 300 Stryker armored vehicles and other rigs from Fort Carson’s 1st Brigade to the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site east of Trinidad for combat training.
The road trip will run May 26 to May 30 and by some accounts is the largest road convoy in Colorado since World War II. Brigade planners have worked on organizing the trip for eight months.
Warrant Officer Georgia Rountree says the trek will consist of dozens of 15- to 30-vehicle convoys traveling at a 40 mph speed limit.
