CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - Nevada lawmakers have approved expanding a program offering millions of dollars in tax credits to attract filmmakers to the state.
Assembly members voted 34-7 to approve SB 94 on Wednesday night. The measure already passed the Senate and heads to Gov. Brian Sandoval for final approval.
The bill would remove a cap that limits the state to awarding $10 million over the four years of the program, and would allow the Legislature to adjust that number. It also converts the tax credits from an expiring pilot program to a permanent program.
Democratic Sen. Aaron Ford is the bill sponsor and said the $10 million hasn’t provided enough of an incentive for filmmakers to come to Nevada. He said the incentives helped attract the “Paul Blart” movie franchise to Las Vegas.
