DENVER (AP) - A man who shot at Denver police officers while his hands were cuffed behind his back has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
The Denver District Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Isaac Vigil was sentenced Thursday after previously pleading guilty to attempted first degree-murder.
Vigil was arrested on drug charges May 14, 2014, and was being taken to a district police station when investigators say he pulled a weapon, shot at the officers and missed.
Another police officer opened fire and hit Vigil, sending him to the hospital.
Officers say they searched Vigil three times before arresting him, but the man managed to hide a .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol from them.
