ALBANY, Ore. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in 25 years for murder and related crimes.
The Gazette-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1INgiVf ) 44-year-old Donald Matzke was sentenced Wednesday in Linn County Circuit Court.
Matzke had been charged for the May 2014 murder of 56-year-old Sweet Home resident, Tim Miller.
Matzke told authorities he and Miller had been drinking heavily at Rockin’ Red Ranch when they got into a fight. Miller had been stabbed five times in the chest and his arms had been slashed.
Prosecutor Coleen Cerda says Miller had been killed by an act of rage and noted Matzke’s efforts to cover up the death.
Matzke’s attorney says that Miller was the aggressor in the brawl and that Matzke has shown remorse.
