PORT ARANSAS, Texas (AP) - Mustang Island State Park in South Texas will add nearly 800 acres.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department on Thursday announced the park in Port Aransas (uh-RAN’-suhs) will expand by 690 acres.
The land known as the Facey Tract was purchased from a private owner, with the $6.25 million deal recently finalized by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission.
The addition runs from Highway 361 to Corpus Christi Bay, with part of the boundary adjacent to the park.
Agency officials also announced a 100-acre conservation easement donation that will link Mustang Island State Park with the Francine Cohn Preserve. That land was donated by the Nature Conservancy, which owns and manages the preserve.
Mustang Island State Park increases to about 4,900 acres with both acquisitions.
