COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho (AP) - A 23-year-old northern Idaho man has pleaded guilty in federal court to killing bald and golden eagles.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Idaho says Adrian Q. Brown-Sonder of Plummer pleaded guilty Wednesday to violating the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.
Authorities say a search of Brown-Sonder’s residence found two bald eagles, two golden eagles, two rough-legged hawks, two red-tailed hawks and a large number of eagle and hawk feathers.
The town of Plummer is within the Coeur d’Alene Reservation.
The chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Council in a letter to the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service condemned the killing of the birds and supported protective federal laws.
Brown-Sonder is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 18. He faces a year in jail and a $100,000 fine.
