BALTIMORE (AP) - Maryland school leaders have decided to lower the number of standardized tests students will have to take next year.
The Baltimore Sun reports (https://bsun.md/1AnghnY ) next year students in grades 3 through 8 will take math and English tests once, instead of twice.
The changes came after a group made up of multiple states governing the newly introduced PARCC test met and voted to reduce testing time.
Maryland school officials say the changes were made in response to feedback from parents, students, and educators during the first year of testing.
State Superintendent of School Lillian M. Lowery says next year’s PARCC tests will take less time away from lessons and keep students on track for college.
Maryland is one of 11 states and the District of Columbia giving the PARCC test.
