PATASKALA, Ohio (AP) - Officials with a central Ohio school district are alerting parents that student information may have been compromised in a recent data breach caused by a high school student.
The Advocate in Newark reports (https://ohne.ws/1BdEmsx ) the data breach affecting Southwest Licking Local Schools occurred in April. School officials notified parents this week the breach could involve the release of more than 110 student names, addresses and social security numbers.
Superintendent Robert Jennell tells the newspaper a student reported in April that a peer had information students shouldn’t have. An investigation later revealed that a high school student had accessed other students’ personal data through the district’s computer network and a shared server.
Jennell says the student has been disciplined. The Licking County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the breach.
