OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) - Protesters delivered a petition calling for pay of $15 an hour and a union to a McDonald’s shareholder meeting outside Chicago.
Police say about 10 people were allowed onto the company’s campus Thursday morning to deliver a petition of support that organizers say had 1.4 million signatures.
About 1,000 people marched outside the meeting for a second day. Police say it was peaceful and there were no arrests or citations.
The protests come as McDonald’s fights to hold onto customers amid intensifying competition from smaller rivals and changing tastes. CEO Steve Easterbrook, who stepped into the role in March, has said he wants to transform McDonald’s into a “modern, progressive burger company.”
Thursday marked Easterbrook’s first shareholder meeting as CEO.
