SCHRIEVER, La. (AP) - A Schriever man pleaded not guilty to being a habitual offender after his latest burglary conviction, but could face a life sentence if he is convicted.

The Courier (https://bit.ly/1K4rREI ) reports 50-year-old Arty James Marcel was convicted on April 22 for stealing a pressure washer, a generator and other tools from a neighbor.

Assistant District Attorney Chris Erny says Marcel has pleaded guilty to at least eight other felonies over the last decade, including five theft and burglary crimes, which potentially qualifies him as a habitual offender.

Marcel’s sentence hearing will take place July 15.
