SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Hampden Superior Court Judge had harsh words for a Springfield man who admitted to pointing a loaded gun at two officers responding to a domestic disturbance.

The Springfield Republican reports (https://bit.ly/1FpBT1Z ) Judge Constance Sweeney told Daneshell Cruz at sentencing Wednesday he wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for the discipline of Officers Christopher Collins and David Robillard.

Officials say a struggle ensued during the domestic disturbance call. It ended when Collins grabbed Cruz’s hand that was holding the firearm. A round was discharged during the conflict, but didn’t hit anyone.

Cruz pleaded guilty to carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

He was sentenced to two to three years in prison.
