ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Sunoco Logistics has agreed to pay a $2,800 bill for a Michigan woman who called the fire department several times for what she thought was a hazardous smell.
The Times Herald of Port Huron (https://bwne.ws/1LolgpE ) reports firefighters went to Venessa Davis’ St. Clair Township home several times last year after she complained of an odor from Sunoco’s nearby crude oil tank farm. The township billed her $400 each for seven “false alarm” responses after it was determined there were no hazards.
Sunoco spokesman Jeff Shields told the newspaper Wednesday that it would pay for Davis’ fees. He said in an email that the company is confident any “odor issues” have also been resolved.
Davis says she didn’t know about the false-alarm fee until she got the bill in February.
