MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) - An English author has won a $50,000 prize for a book detailing the tensions in Great Britain that helped prompt the American Revolution.
Nick Bunker, author of An Empire on the Edge: How Britain Came to Fight America, received the George Washington Book Prize Wednesday night at Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.
Mount Vernon, Washington College and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History jointly sponsor the annual prize, which is one of the nation’s largest literary awards. It honors the year’s best book on early American history.
Bunker’s book was also a finalist in this year’s Pulitzer prizes for history books.
Bunker, of Lincolnshire, England, is a former Financial Times journalist and investment banker.
