SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) - Caregivers are raising money to help a dog that police say was set on fire inside its dog house.

WXIA-TV (https://on.11alive.com/1K3Ixw4) reports the 1-year-old pit dog named Royalti was taken to the Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic May 12 after she was found burned behind a Smyrna home.

Police arrested the dog’s owner, Caleb Lanier, who faces charges of arson and cruelty to animals. He’s accused of using a flammable accelerant to ignite the dog house with the dog inside.

The dog suffered first- and second-degree burns over 60-percent of its body. Doctors say she has a long recovery ahead. The Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic has set up a GoFundMe.com account to help defray costs for her care.
