ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (AP) - A World War II veteran in Albuquerque has received the Bronze Star and the French Legion of Honour.
The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1FA0nqT ) 90-year-old Thomas Grasser was honored with the special awards during Wednesday ceremonies at Kirtland Air Force Base.
The Bronze Star is the fourth highest federal military medal and is presented for combat heroism or meritorious service. The adjutant general of New Mexico, Brig. Gen. Andrew E. Salas, pinned the medal on Grasser.
Honorary consul of France in New Mexico, Perry Bendicksen, presented Grasser with the Legion of Honour, for service to France and its people.
Grasser said he humbly takes the honor for all veterans who have passed on.
Grasser has been in New Mexico since 1949. These days, he spends his time volunteering in Albuquerque’s Old Town.
