GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Gastonia say two firefighters were injured when a roof collapsed as they fought a house fire.

Local media outlets report that firefighters were called late Thursday night to a home on the city’s east side. When they arrived, firefighters discovered smoke and flames from the rear portion of the two-story home. When they went inside, the firemen found intense flames on the second floor.

While battling the blaze from inside, a ceiling collapsed. Firefighters were then ordered out of the house.

Both firefighters were taken to CaroMont Regional Medical Center for injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

The Gastonia Fire Department said several dogs were rescued from the fire. The department is investigating the cause of the fire.
