PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Florida for suspicion of child rape following an investigation that began in Washington state.

The man was arrested Thursday in Miami Beach by the U.S. Marshals Service and faces two counts of second-degree rape of a child. He is being extradited to Kitsap County and is being held on $5 million bail.

An investigation began after a social worker at a Tacoma hospital reported suspicious injuries to a baby girl treated in August.

The man is believed to have fathered at least 12 children by two women, who also were arrested. Both have been booked into Kitsap County Jail on suspicion of third-degree criminal mistreatment.

Authorities say several children were identified as victims of physical and sexual abuse. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office believes the women, 41 and 28, tried to hide the children from authorities.
