AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Sheriff’s investigators have made an arrest in the 2012 slaying of an Augusta security guard.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1LsdFpZ ) the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed a man booked at the jail last week on charges of driving with a suspended license has now been charged with murder in the killing of 56-year-old Hester Jackson on Dec. 8, 2012.

Authorities say Jackson, a security guard at the Savannah River Site, was shot after returning from work and finding a burglar in his house. Investigators said last year the case had gone cold.

Arrest warrants say Lockhart told investigators that two of his friends killed Jackson. Investigators say the friends Lockhart named were in prison when the killing happened. It was not immediately known if Lockhart had an attorney.
