YORK, S.C. (AP) - A convicted killer from North Carolina on trial for a shoplifting violation skipped his court date and is now being searched for by police.

The Rock Hill Herald (https://bit.ly/1cQWHFS ) reports 41-year-old Jerry Dickey missed his court date Wednesday in York County. Dickey, who is accused of stealing from a Family Dollar in Clover and leading police on a high-speed chase in August 2014 had been free on bond since November 2014.

A jury convicted Dickey in his absence, but he hasn’t been found. Dickey is considered by prosecutors to be dangerous.

North Carolina court records show Dickey served five years for a second-degree murder charge after he was convicted in 1992. York County prosecutor Matthew Hogge recently told a judge that Dickey has 11 convictions for theft on his record.
