CASS, Ark. (AP) - Detours have been established to reroute traffic around a hill slide on State Highway 23 north of Interstate 40 in Franklin County.
According to a news release from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, a 3.2-mile section of the highway about 5.5 miles north of Cass was closed Wednesday night.
Officials say slope supporting the roadbed on the east side of the highway was in the process of sliding and caused large cracks to form in the northbound and southbound lanes, making both impassable.
According to the department, 700 feet of roadway is at risk of sliding.
