FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - Fort Lauderdale Police fatally shot a man after he took a woman hostage while reportedly armed and on the drug “flakka”.
The South Florida Sun Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1FGPCVm) reports police responded Thursday to a house where family members said an armed man was inside and holding a woman hostage. Police say the man may have been using “flakka.” Witnesses say they saw the man and woman argue.
Police say negotiators and SWAT members entered the home and began a conversation with the suspect. Capt. Frank Sousa says while they were talking to him, officers were forced to shoot him in order to save the woman’s life. The woman was treated at the scene.
The relationship between with the man and woman is unclear. Their names have not been released.
