BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Bernie Sanders’ new presidential campaign headquarters is just a few doors up Church Street in Burlington from the City Hall he first captured as mayor 34 years ago.
Campaign staff have been moving into and setting up the third-floor suite for about a week now. The senator’s wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders, will be sharing a corner office overlooking Lake Champlain with her husband. She’s a volunteer but jokes that her title with the campaign staff is “wife-everythinger.”
The work comes ahead of Sanders’ official campaign kickoff Tuesday at Burlington’s Waterfront Park, on the Lake Champlain waterfront that Sanders worked to redevelop as mayor.
The independent U.S. senator from Vermont announced last month that he intends to seek the Democratic nomination for president in 2016.
