JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - A Jonesboro police officer who shot and killed a man who attacked him with a machete will not be charged.

KAIT reports (https://bit.ly/1LutBbe ) that prosecutor Scott Ellington says two days of grand jury testimony did not produce evidence that Officer Heath Loggains should be charged. Police Chief Rick Elliot released a statement saying the department is pleased with the outcome.

Police say Loggains shot and killed Christopher Grant Finley on April 14 after responding to reports of a disturbance at Finley’s home. Police say Finley eventually ran into the home and struck Loggains on the arm with a machete when Loggains tried to enter and Loggains then fired several times through a door.

A police tactical team later entered the house and found Finley dead.
