COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A collapsing trench wall near Covington buried two construction workers, killing one.

Nola.com/The Times-Picayune (https://bit.ly/1LsNUWI ) reports rescue teams were able to free a man buried in dirt up to his upper body Thursday afternoon at a construction site.

Covington Fire District 2 Chief David Windom says a second man was found buried in dirt yards from where they found the first construction worker. By the time rescue crews arrived, they could only see the feet of the surviving worker, who had apparently been knocked sideways in the pit by the collapse.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston identified the victim as 24-year-old Isidro Cigarroa Martinez. An autopsy will be performed.

Authorities say the men were working in a trench about 10 to 15 feet deep when the wall collapsed.
