FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Pliny Draper has been named to the Arizona State Transportation Board serving the northern region.
Gov. Doug Ducey announced the appointment Thursday, which requires confirmation by the state Senate.
The seven-member transportation board advises the Arizona Department of Transportation. Each member serves a six-year term.
Draper, a member of the Navajo Nation who is half Hopi, will represent Apache, Navajo and Coconino counties. Draper says he’ll focus on enhancing job growth and economic development, and working with tribes to improve the state transportation system.
Draper’s background is in architecture and construction administration but he’s now retired. He spends his free time as a rancher and historian. He’s also a member of the Arizona Commission of Indian Affairs.
