Prosecutors say the Creve Coeur nurse was taking care of a 92-year-old woman when her son started to notice jewelry and cash was missing.
Officials say Sams had recently sold items to pawn shops that matched the description the son gave police of her mother’s belongings.
Sams faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. She has been released on bond and is next due in court on June 18.
